The CENTCOM commander recommended stopping the bombing campaign.
President Donald Trump has paused military strikes against Iran after U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander Admiral Brad Cooper made that recommendation to the White House and the Pentagon. The commander said that the campaign had reached the limits of effectiveness after nearly two weeks of sustained bombing. He also said that the regime’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz was sufficiently weakened.
While the strikes have halted, the United States has not resumed peace negotiations with Iranian representatives at this time. Though Iran has indicated it will not attack vessels in the Strait of Hormuz as long as the U.S. strikes are paused, the Islamic Republic has continued to claim control over the international waterway.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet with President Trump at the White House on Tuesday to discuss the current status of conflicts in the Middle East.
